Cheltenham American Square Dance Club (The Swinging Squares) is the home of American Square Dancing in Cheltenham and the surrounding areas including Gloucester, Stroud, Tewkesbury and Bishop’s Cleeve.  We are a small club anxious to expand so that the fun and friendship that is key to the spirit of American Square Dancing, benefits as many people as possible in this area. We aim to provide a gentle mental challenge through a pastime that is proven to reduce daily stresses and keep body and mind healthy for all ages!

New dancers ?

We plan to have a couple of open evenings in September 2017.  Anyone who is interested in learning to square dance or to find out what is all about will be made most welcome.  Exact dates will be announced in due course.  Watch this space!

Recent News

Members and guests enjoyed a great evening dancing to Simon and Trudy Fielding on 8th October at Sacred Hearts Parish Hall.  Photo and video can be seen here.

Our Next Dances:

The big event this year (2017) is our club’s 60th anniversary.  To celebrate we have booked James Wyatt and Neil Whiston to call for us on Saturday 8th July.  See our events calendar for further details.

The planned  joint dance weekend with Centre Squares 30th Sept - 1st October 2017 has regrettably been cancelled due to the sudden and unexpected sad demise of Anders Blom.  He was an outstanding caller and part of the square dance scene for many decades and will be sorely missed.
